The Walla Walla University School of Business’s BizBuddies program was created for freshmen and sophomore business students looking for help navigating their academic journey, building connections, and developing professional skills. Students who opt into the program receive individual mentors who are there to answer questions, share advice, and help their mentees succeed. Mentors are often juniors and seniors in the business program who have demonstrated leadership, academic success, and a willingness to help others.
According to Johanna Attoh, associate professor of economics and finance, BizBuddies has already begun to help participating mentees build meaningful connections with their upperclassmen mentors and gain confidence in their academic and professional paths. The program has also made an impact on mentors as it presents a great opportunity for them to develop their leadership and communication skills.
Every week, the program sends out a specific topic with resources for mentors to discuss with their mentees, including focuses on building a resume, interviews, study strategies, and more. The program also hosts exclusive social events like root beer float and ice cream parties for program participants to enjoy, and is flexible for mentor and mentee alike.
